More Information

What is Play! By Sephora & how does it work?

  • Play! by Sephora ($10 per month) is a beauty box created and curated by the makeup experts at Sephora. Each month, Sephora puts together several collections of seasonal, on-trend products from premium brands, then matches you with the version that fits your beauty interests and preferences.

The makeup, haircare, skincare, and fragrance samples in each box represent the same brands you’d find in an actual Sephora store. Here are just a few of the brands we’ve seen in recent boxes: Urban Decay, Make Up Forever, Clinique, Tarte, Amika, Dr. Jart, Laneige, Moroccan Oil, Supergoop, Tatcha, & many more!

In addition to 5 monthly beauty samples, you’ll also get: A bonus item, a resealable, recyclable plastic travel bag (The design changes every month!), a book of tips and info about your new beauty items, access to exclusive online content, like beauty tutorials, and a Play! Pass—a pass that you can redeem for in-store experiences & 50 Beauty Insider points in-store or online.

How much does Play! by Sephora cost?

  • Play! by Sephora costs just $10 per month + FREE shipping. (Ships to US only.) It’s one of the best affordable subscription boxes we review, and we’re consistently happy with the value it delivers. (Play! by Sephora promises up to $65 worth of samples each month.)

Is Play! by Sephora the same as Sephora Play?

  • Yep! The official name of Sephora’s beauty box is Play! by Sephora, but we’ve seen readers refer to it as Sephora Play, too. Sign up here or learn more about the box our readers named one of the best beauty boxes of 2019!

Do you have a Play! by Sephora promo code or coupon?

  • Play! by Sephora doesn’t typically have any promo codes available, but sometimes they have sales on past boxes. Check this page for the latest deals.

What makeup you get in a Play! by Sephora box? Is it all Sephora makeup?

  • Play! by Sephora does occasionally feature Sephora-brand products, but most of what you’ll get are samples from the brands you’d expect to see at a Sephora store. Think makeup brands like Urban Decay and Make Up Forever, notable skincare brands like Caudalie and Clinique, trending haircare brands like Moroccan Oil and Amika, and even popular Korean beauty brands like Tatcha and Laneige.

Are Play! by Sephora boxes personalized?

  • Yes! Each month, Sephora puts together several versions of their box, then matches you with the version that best fits the preferences you set when signing up. Is each item specifically picked out just for you? No, but you’re still getting something that should fit your interests, style, and preferences.

This box is a joke! None of the items are big enough to actually try the products and it didn't seem like they took my beauty profile into consideration AT ALL when curating the boxes - it kinda seemed like they just tossed 5 random things into a box and call it "curating". I ended up getting multiple duplicates of the same exact items (and I've only been subscribed for 6 months),the bags are a cheap plastic Ziploc bag (not the cute drawstring bags they have in the advertising photos) - all in all, I'm vastly disappointed. I'm going to give it another month or two, but if something doesn't improve soon, I'll be cancelling my subscription FOR SURE. I emailed customer service about the duplicate items - I guess we will see if they'll actually do anything about it. I know it's only $10 a month, but I can think of WAY better stuff to spend $120 a year on...... just saying.....

Disappointed too many times and finally cancelled. I hardly ever received anything relevant or even anything new I wanted to try. Kept receiving duplicate fragrance samples. And many of the samples were nearly empty.

Dissappointed. My last 2 boxes contained some nearly empty or empty products. The SORBET MOISTERIZER had to be shaken down and I got one (1) little dab. TheDETOX DRY SHAMPOO didnt even spray. I've loved my boxes but am getting discouraged by quality. First you stopped the cute bags..then you send the same like items and colors. My friend gets IPSY and they still get bags. I suppose another round of empties and I will stop my PLAY! box. D.Henningsen

I tought this Play! box will be fun way to try new things, but first one (January) didn't even arrived... They sent me new one which had all different product then the ones that I was supposed to get (the ones shown on the App). I wanted to give it another try, but February box AGAIN didn't arrived (they didn't wrote the address on the package, so the delivery status was "undeliverable"). When I asked what's going on, they answered they can't resend it, because of limited quantities... really unprofessional... I unsubscribed.

I cancelled my Sephora play because I feel like these are free samples I could get at Sephora if I just go there. I was very disappointed with the items I was receiving. Why fill out a questionnaire with my skin tone and send me something five Shades Darker? This is me being a hundred percent honest the only way I would have another Sephora play box is if I win this one year subscription. Sorry Not Sorry.

I really liked this box at first, it was new and exciting. Over the course of several months the boxes went from exciting to just getting bland face cream products. Also, dealing with customer service was a nightmare. I cancelled because customer service was like “oh well, sorry we cannot fix the mistake we made—but here is 250 points.” The points mean nothing to me, just fix the mistake! Extremely disappointing.

I really want to like this sub.....but I dont. Maybe I just received a crappy first month bag/box. But for $10....my items were disappointing! I got a Drunk Elephant cream that I was excited about...until I opened the tiny container and discovered that hardly a sample was in the container at all. I mean, why even send the jar/container if you wont put 1/3 of anything in it??? Wow!! Then I had one item in a foil wrap! The only decent item was a Tarte blush. Other than that....it was worth nothing. I cancelled....and wont return. Anytime I order from Sephora I never ever ever ever get the samples I request....so why should I expect anymore from them?!! Any problem I have ever had...customer service has been rude to me....so I really dont know why I even bothered!!
